TLDR
- A Ramadan bazaar vendor in Batu Kawan has gone viral for selling Nasi Kerabu with a large banner displaying a photo of her IC.
- Many netizens believe she did this to prove that the Nasi Kerabu she sells is truly authentic from Kelantan and that she is a Malaysian citizen.
- The strategy has been praised, as many people have previously been disappointed by Nasi Kerabu sold by non‑Kelantanese vendors who do not follow the original recipe.
Every vendor has their own creative way of drawing in customers. While some rely on aesthetically pleasing dishes made for social media and others compete through attractive pricing, one seller has taken a completely different route.

Social media netizens amused
Needless to say, social media users are amused by the whole thing. While it isn’t clear why she printed her IC on the banner, many Malaysians speculate that she did it to assure customers that her Nasi Kerabu, a staple dish from the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, is genuinely from Kelantan.
Meanwhile, others guess that she printed her IC so people would know she’s a Malaysian rather than an immigrant.
“I think the seller can already prove she’s Kelantanese without printing her IC. All she had to do was speak.”
“This auntie knows there are many non‑Kelantanese who make Nasi Kerabu without following the right recipe,” said a user.

Another user commented, “I’m a huge fan of Nasi Kerabu. The other day at a night market, I ordered two Nasi Kerabu Daging Bakar. While waiting for my order, I heard the sellers speaking in an Indonesian dialect. I was disappointed. When I got home, the Nasi Kerabu tasted off. So yes, this is a smart strategy.”
