There’s a common saying that goes, “It’s a parent’s duty to protect their child.” For many, that belief feels unquestionable. However, a recent case serves as a stark reminder that even those entrusted with a child’s safety can sometimes commit unthinkable acts.
Yesterday (2 March), a security guard pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court to 13 charges involving sexual offences against his own daughter committed between January and February.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, the 43-year-old suspect was charged with four counts of physical sexual assault against his six-year-old daughter between 22 January and 17 February 17.
He was additionally charged with four counts of non-physical sexual assault for committing inappropriate acts in front of the victim between 23 January and 16 February.
The accused also faced two charges under provisions relating to sexual intercourse against the order of nature, allegedly committed on 16 and 17 February, as well as one charge of rape on 17 February.
Also produced child sexual abuse material
As if that were not enough, he also faces two charges for producing child sexual abuse material involving the victim, believed to have been committed on 22 January and 23 February.
For the physical sexual assault offences, he was charged under Section 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (SOCCA) 2017. Meanwhile, the non-physical sexual assault charges fall under Section 15(c) of the same Act.

The charges relating to intercourse against the order of nature are framed under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of five to 30 years and whipping upon conviction.
As for the charges involving the production of child sexual abuse material, the accused is charged under Section 5 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, while the rape charge falls under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.
