That’s exactly what happened at a well-known restaurant in Las Vegas, where a fancy dish that cost around RM59 was said to look strikingly similar to a familiar local food: cakoi, also known as youtiao.

Fancy cakoi on a hook?
In a video posted on Instagram, a long, fried pastry was seen hanging from a hook at a table before a server cut it into smaller pieces using a pair of scissors.
The dish is believed to be served at a fine-dining restaurant called Copper Sun, located at Resorts World Las Vegas.

According to the restaurant’s à la carte menu, the dish is called the “Giant Crispy Fried Crouton Stick”, and it is sold for USD$15 (about RM59) per piece.
The short video has since garnered the attention of many Asians, including Malaysians, who found the presentation questionable for what appears to be a piece of cakoi, with the price tag being even more baffling.
