A 25-year-old man was killed after he was allegedly stabbed by an acquaintance with a machete following a dispute over a mobile phone in front of his home along Jalan Mohd Akhir, Kampung Sungai Udang, on Tuesday night (10 March).
The incident occurred at about 8:30 PM, when the victim was found lying on the veranda of his house with three stab wounds to the left side of his chest.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Christopher Patit said the incident was discovered by the victim’s elder brother, who heard a heated argument between his younger sibling and the suspect, a 44-year-old man.

Initial investigations found that the suspect had gone to the victim’s house to retrieve his mobile phone, which he had lent to the victim about a week earlier. However, the victim allegedly refused to return the phone, leading to an argument and physical altercation.
Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar later revealed that the suspect believed the victim had sold the phone to obtain drugs.
“The situation caused the suspect to suspect that his mobile phone had been sold by the victim to purchase drugs,” he said.
Both men reportedly have several prior records related to drug and criminal offences, although police are still investigating the exact nature of their relationship.
Died at the scene
During the altercation, the suspect is believed to have stabbed the victim in the left side of the chest using a machete. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Following the incident, the suspect fled approximately 300 metres from the location before attempting to hide inside a vehicle belonging to a member of the public in a nearby area. He was later apprehended by members of the public, who broke the window of the vehicle to detain him.
The victim’s body was sent to Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court today allowed the suspect to be remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
