In case you haven’t heard the news, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman recently said that the Biro Tatanegara (BTN), or the National Civics Bureau, will be abolished in the near future.

If you’re unfamiliar with what BTN is, it is actually a government agency under the Prime Minister’s office set up in the 1970s to train Malaysian youths to be our future leaders and to also foster patriotism among them.

The programme, however, became controversial over the years after it was alleged that it became a propaganda tool for the previous government used to spread racism and bigotry.

It's time to go, BTN.
“Let me tell you this, BTN will be abolished... just wait for an announcement that will be made soon,” Syed Saddiq told The Malay Mail.

The issue to abolish the programme was first raised by Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, which then garnered a lot of support including from the Muar MP.

So, those of you who went for BTN last time… was it that bad? Mind sharing what actually transpired?
