Owning a pet can bring joy and companionship, but it also comes with responsibilities that cannot simply be set aside when circumstances become difficult. From daily care to ensuring they have a safe place to live, pets rely entirely on their owners for their well-being.
Recently, a Malaysian property agent brought attention to a case of pet abandonment after sharing that more than 60 cats were found in a rental home after the previous occupant had moved out.
In a TikTok video, the property agent, known by the username Arif Husni, shared that he was contacted by a property owner. Initially, he thought the call was work-related, but he soon learned that the property owner desperately needed help dealing with a cat problem at a rental unit.

Arif later included footage showing how he and the homeowner managed to capture over 60 cats, including kittens, in the vacant house. Some of the cats could also be seen running around in panic as they attempted to rescue them.
However, Arif said the exact number of cats living in the house was unknown.
They might have tried to help the cats initially…
In the comments section, Arif revealed that the house was filled with cat excrement and was in an overall unsuitable condition for both animals and humans to live in.
He also speculated that the previous tenant might have originally wanted to help the cats but was unable to manage them after the number of animals became too much to handle.
It is understood that some of the kittens have already been adopted, but Arif and the property owner are still looking for adopters or individuals willing to care for the remaining cats.
Netizens' reactions
The video has since gained attention among social media users. Understandably, many have criticised the irresponsible actions of the previous tenant, who left the cats unattended.
Others have also voiced their concerns for the cats' well-being while praising both the property owner and Arif for how they handled the situation.
“Oh my God! How could they just leave the cats? I was a renter too, but when I moved, I brought along all 15 of my cats. Now, they’re happier in their new home.”

Another user commented, “How could they just leave the cats? Thank God the homeowner came to check on the house. What if they were the type to only inspect the property after several months? There would have been no hope for the cats. I pray that everything goes well for the homeowner, and I hope the cats will find new homes soon.”

Meanwhile, some social media users also shared their own experiences of facing similar situations.
“I had a similar experience. My neighbour was a renter and had more than 15 cats. Then, when they moved during the COVID-19 pandemic, they left all the cats behind. Thankfully, the cats were smart and came over to my house. They bred uncontrollably. I took pity on them and decided to care for them. Now, I have over 50 cats, all of whom once belonged to my neighbours. I've had all of them spayed and have even built a house for them.”
