We often hear about Malaysian students getting nominated for prestigious international accolades, but how often do we hear about teachers getting nominated for an international award?

Well, you will be delighted to know that a teacher from Sabah has been nominated for, not one, but two awards at the International Global Education Awards.

30-year-old Sirhajwan Idek has been nominated in two categories – the Community Award for Citizenship for his contribution in education to the community and Outstanding Contribution in Education for his performance as a teacher at his current college.

Your fellow teachers, students, and Malaysians are all rooting for you, Sirhajwan!
He will take part in the International Global Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS) Education Awards which is set to take place on 28 February in Dubai.

The Sabahan is currently teaching at Keningau Vocational College.

Oh, if that's not impressive enough, Sirhajwan is the only Malaysian teacher to be nominated.

He told the New Straits Times in an interview: “With courage and perseverance, nothing is impossible.”

“It is difficult to believe that I got two nominations instead of one,” he told the English daily.

He hopes that with this nomination, it will inspire other teachers to be more creative with their teaching methods.

This isn’t Sirhajwan’s first rodeo in getting recognised for international awards, though. The outstanding teacher had previously won three international contests and awards, with two of them taking place in England and the other one in Paris.

We wish Sirhajwan good luck and all the best and may he bring home both coveted awards. Malaysia boleh!
