TLDR

  • A woman in Kedah was seriously injured after being stabbed in the neck by a man she knew in front of a restaurant.
  • Police suspect the attack was motivated by unrequited love or jealousy, and the 32-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the incident.
  • The suspect has a prior criminal record involving grievous hurt and is currently being remanded as investigations proceed under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

Yesterday, Malaysians were shocked by news of a woman being stabbed in the neck by her male acquaintance in front of a restaurant along Jalan Titi Gajah.

Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said police received a call about the incident at 9:24 PM on 17 May, reporting a fight in front of the restaurant. The victim was found lying inside a car, covered in blood from serious neck injuries.

Police suspect rejected love as motive

According to police, the victim and the suspect—a 32-year-old divorcee—had known each other for more than a year, as both worked in the real estate sector, albeit at different companies.

Although the exact motive for the stabbing remains unclear, police believe it was likely driven by jealousy or unrequited love.

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack but was later arrested while hiding near a place of worship in Taman Uda, about six kilometres from the crime scene.

“The incident is believed to have happened quickly, as they had just arrived at the restaurant. Both had yet to get out of the car, but a few minutes later, the suspect exited the victim’s vehicle and fled towards a nearby paddy field,” Adzli said.

Despite her extensive injuries, the victim managed to honk the car horn and attract the attention of people at the restaurant. She was then given initial treatment to help stop the bleeding.

According to a report, the stab wound is believed to have been inflicted on the left side of the neck and penetrated through to the right. So far, the weapon used has not been recovered, but police suspect it could have been an ice pick, screwdriver, or a Rambo knife.

Suspect has prior criminal record

Adzli added that the victim is currently in stable condition and remains hospitalised. Meanwhile, the suspect is being remanded until 24 May.

Investigations also revealed that the suspect has a prior criminal record under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt to his girlfriend several years ago. However, his urine screening tested negative for prohibited substances.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
