If your weekend plans currently consist of “sleep” and “see how,” we may have just found something better for you. Instead of spending another day wandering around the mall, why not explore some of Malaysia’s museums for free? 

From historical artefacts to interactive exhibits, these 19 museums are opening their doors to Malaysians without charging an entrance fee.

According to BERNAMA, the free admission initiative began on 18 May in conjunction with International Museum Day 2026. National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the programme aims to encourage more people, especially younger generations, to visit museums and appreciate the nation’s history and heritage. 

“We also hope the public will value the role of museums as institutions of knowledge, catalysts for unity, and platforms for nation-building,” he said. 

Below is the list of museums offering free admission to Malaysians: 

  1. Muzium Negara (National Museum)
  2. National Textile Museum
  3. Malay World Ethnology Museum
  4. Orang Asli Crafts Museum
  5. National Automobile Museum
  6. Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum
  7. Perak Museum
  8. Music Museum
  9. Malaysia Architectural Museum
  10. Matang Museum
  11. Kota Kuala Kedah Museum
  12. Kota Kayang Museum
  13. Kota Johor Lama Museum
  14. Labuan Museum
  15. Labuan Marine Museum
  16. Chimney Museum
  17. Sungai Lembing Museum
  18. Customs Museum
  19. Lukut Museum 

Aaron also said the ministry, through the Department of Museums Malaysia and in collaboration with the Johor Heritage Foundation, will organise the International Museum Day 2026 celebration in Johor from 23 to 30 June.
