This 31yo Restaurant in Klang Sells ‘The Cheapest Chicken Rice in Malaysia’ for Just RM4.50 per Plate

At a time when rising costs have pushed many businesses to focus on profit, affordable meals are becoming harder to find. But in Klang, one restaurant has chosen a different path, putting people first by serving a plate of chicken rice for just RM4.50.

As if that’s not impressive enough given how expensive everything is these days, the same price also applies to other meals served at the restaurant, such as Roasted Duck Rice, Salted Chicken Rice, Barbecued Pork Rice, and Roasted Meat Rice.

Located along Jalan Rengas, it’s hard to miss this humble restaurant, especially with a giant banner hanging outside that reads, “The cheapest chicken rice in the whole of Malaysia.”

According to a report by China Press, All Family Restaurant opens for business at 10 AM. However, even before the clock struck 10, a long line had already formed outside.

The shop sells more than 500 plates per day

According to the owner, Wu Duobin, the restaurant has been in business for 31 years. When he first started, meals at his shop cost only RM3.50 per plate. However, due to the rising cost of living, he had no choice but to increase the price by RM1.

Wu said that despite the dramatic rise in market prices for roast meat, he chose not to further increase the price of his meals. He explained that he hoped his contribution would allow everyone — including those with lower incomes — to continue enjoying a proper meal.

“It’s my personal choice. Selling food at a lower price doesn’t necessarily mean losing money. Although the profit per dish is very low, the high volume of customers makes up for it," he said.

“Currently, the business is relatively stable, and I can sell about 500 to 600 plates every day.”

When asked about the “cheapest chicken rice in the whole of Malaysia” label displayed at his restaurant, Wu said he was confident in the claim, noting that very few vendors are willing to sell at such low prices these days.

Wu also credited his business strategy of buying ingredients in bulk for helping him keep costs under control.

“For example, I can secure lower prices from suppliers by purchasing in large quantities. Currently, a small chicken costs about RM12, a large chicken costs around RM24, while ducks cost about RM35. The more I buy, the cheaper the price becomes,” he explained.

Currently, the restaurant’s monthly rent is about RM2,000. Wu is assisted by his wife and four workers, each earning approximately RM2,000 per month.

Including utilities, Wu shared that the shop’s monthly expenses can exceed RM10,000. While there is constant pressure to maintain the price of RM4.50 per plate, Wu said he remains committed to ensuring customers can continue to afford his meals despite the rising cost of living.
