TLDR
- Civil servants who commute more than 8km can work from home three days a week starting 15 April, except those in security, defence, health, and education sectors.
- The WFH days differ by state weekend: Tuesday to Thursday for Sunday-weekend states, and Monday to Wednesday for Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
- Attendance must be logged hourly via geo-location, and department heads will monitor work output and targets for those working remotely.
Civil servants will soon be able to enjoy a three-days-per-week work-from-home (WFH) arrangement, effective from 15 April.
However, the arrangement is only applicable to those who commute more than 8km to work.
In addition, civil servants working in the security and defence, health, and education sectors are exempt from the arrangement.

Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said that the WFH arrangement for states observing weekends on Sunday will apply from Tuesday to Thursday, while states observing Fridays as part of the weekend — Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, will implement it from Monday to Wednesday.
He also said that the home addresses used to determine the distance between a civil servant’s residence and workplace will be based on information recorded in the Human Resources Information Management System (HRMIS).

“Those allowed to work from home are also required to log in to the online monitoring system every hour to record their attendance using the geo-location function on their devices at home."
“Department heads must also identify the expected output from each officer working from home and regularly review and confirm the established work targets and outcomes,” he said, as reported by The Star.
