TLDR
- A woman was allegedly caught allowing her child to urinate in front of Suria KLCC, sparking discussions about public etiquette in Malaysia.
- Photos of the incident that went viral showed several members of the public around the area, while the woman and her child were believed to be foreigners from China.
- Malaysians criticised the act and suggested stricter enforcement measures, including heavy fines similar to those implemented in Singapore.
Most people would agree that living in a society comes with a certain level of responsibility. While laws and regulations exist to maintain order, many everyday situations are governed by something much simpler, common sense. After all, being mindful of how our actions affect those around us is a basic part of sharing public spaces.
This topic recently became the subject of online discussion after a woman was caught on camera allowing her child to relieve himself in front of KLCC, prompting many to question whether basic public etiquette had been overlooked.
In a post on Threads, one user shared a photo of a woman looking on as her son urinated in a public space in front of the Suria KLCC building. The photo also captured several bystanders walking in the background.

The identities of the woman and her son remain unknown, but the user claimed they were both foreigners believed to be from China.
The user had also written a caption heavily criticising the woman’s actions.
“You just let your child pee there without a care in the world. Typical mainlander!”
Needless to say, many Malaysians were disgusted by the woman’s behaviour and slammed her actions. Meanwhile, others urged the authorities to take further action and suggested that perhaps it is time for Malaysia to follow in Singapore’s footsteps by implementing heavy fines for such behaviour.

One user also shared their own experience dealing with customers from mainland China.
“I once had an experience scolding a customer from mainland China at a cafe. We have toilets in the cafe, but the customer told their child to pee in the smoking area."
They added, "Then, they tried to bribe me with money so I wouldn’t make a fuss about it. This isn’t about money, it’s about having common sense. If you need to pee, just use the toilet and don’t urinate in public.”
