When a restaurant is dubbed the “Hermès of Samgyetang”, expectations run high. MODU, the premium Korean ginseng chicken soup specialist that drew cult-like queues in Singapore, has finally landed in Kuala Lumpur at The Exchange TRX.
We were recently invited to experience MODU and we were eager to see if it lived up to the hype. From the moment we stepped in, it was clear this wasn’t just another Korean restaurant.
Stepping into MODU feels like entering a modern Korean Hanok. Warm wood tones, intricate latticework, and soft lantern lighting create a serene, upscale vibe. The open kitchen adds a sense of transparency and craft, while private VIP rooms offer exclusivity for those who want a more intimate experience.

The dining experience
We started with the Black Chicken Samgyetang (RM64), and it was nothing short of exceptional. The broth was velvety and collagen-rich, carrying a depth of flavour that only comes from hours of slow simmering. The black chicken itself was a revelation, leaner and firmer than regular chicken, with a subtle gamey note. Paired with glutinous rice tucked inside the bird, the dish was overall hearty yet elegant.

Next came the Hanbang Kalguksu (RM34), a bowl that felt like a warm embrace. The hand-cut noodles had a satisfying chew, soaking up the herbal broth that echoed the flavors of Samgyetang but with a lighter, more delicate profile. It’s the kind of dish that's perfect for those who want comfort without heaviness.

The sides were where MODU showed its playful side. The Corn Fries (RM18) were golden and crisp, with a subtle sweetness that made them addictive. The Chicken Skin Salad (RM22) surprised us with its balance of crunchy, savoury pieces of chicken skin tossed with fresh greens.
Then came the Potato Pancake (RM22), a Korean classic elevated to perfection. Its golden, crisp edges gave way to a soft, almost creamy centre that melted in the mouth. The truffle mayonnaise on the side added an indulgent, earthy richness, turning a humble comfort dish into something truly decadent.

To finish, we sipped on Sunchoke Tea (RM15), an earthy, slightly nutty infusion that felt soothing and restorative. It acted as the perfect palate cleanser and a gentle goodbye, leaving us refreshed after a hearty, flavour-packed meal.
Our verdict
Every dish at MODU is crafted with wellness in mind, using Halal-certified chicken and authentic Korean ingredients, with no pork, no lard, and no alcohol. It’s inclusive dining done right, without compromising authenticity or flavour.
MODU delivers on its promise of luxury Korean wellness dining. From the meticulous preparation to the serene interiors, every detail feels intentional. It’s not just a meal, it’s an experience that nourishes both body and soul.
