Hey Malaysians, where did your significant other originate from? Is he or she from East Malaysia or somewhere from the northern region? Or perhaps the south?

Well, this may sound weird but where your partner is from may play a vital role on how romantic he or she is.

Based on searched terms

According to a study conducted by Polish-based e-commerce platform Picodi.com, Sarawak, Johor, and Sabah are the top three most romantic states in Malaysia, in that order.

The research was based on the comparison of the increase in popularity of romantic queries focusing on various keywords, from January to February 2019, sourced from Google archived data.


Among the keywords frequently searched are “Valentine’s Day”, “love confession”, “love” and “flowers” to name a few.

But if your partner comes from Terengganu, Kelantan, or Putrajaya, they might not be that romantic, as these three places are in the bottom three of the list.

What about those living in central, urban areas? Well, Kuala Lumpur placed eighth while Selangor placed 13^th.
