TLDR

  • Influencer Abe Wee shared his unpleasant experience after firecrackers were set off too close to an eatery in Port Dickson, disturbing customers and ruining their food.
  • Abe Wee stressed the importance of choosing the right time and place to play with firecrackers out of respect for those around, not only during Chinese New Year but for all festive seasons.
  • His post received strong support from netizens, who agreed that firecrackers should never be set off near cooking areas or places where people are eating, as it can be dangerous and disruptive to others.

A Malaysian content creator and influencer recently shared his displeasure over individuals who set off firecrackers right next to an eatery where he was dining.

In a TikTok video, influencer Abe Wee shows how a long firecracker was ignited very close to the restaurant’s cooking station and near where customers were sitting.

The incident is believed to have happened at an eatery in Port Dickson (PD). When the firecrackers went off, Abe Wee and his sibling, who is also a content creator, Mek Yun, appeared visibly distressed by the situation.

Abe Wee later said their food and drinks were rendered inedible due to the smoke and debris from the firecrackers. At one point, he was also seen rubbing his eyes because of the thick smoke.

In his post, Abe Wee stated that while he understands people are still in a festive mood since it’s Chinese New Year, there is still a proper time and place for such activities.

“We were eating and suddenly the place was full of smoke. There goes my roti sardin and iced tea, ruined by smoke and debris from the firecrackers. If you want to play, please do it at an appropriate time."

He added, "This isn’t just about Chinese New Year, but for all festive seasons. This is also not a Chinese person getting angry at other Chinese people. I just want people to have some common sense. Please respect the surroundings and others.”

Netizens resonate with Abe Wee

The post has since gained the attention of other Malaysians, many of whom agreed with Abe Wee’s concerns. Some also questioned why anyone would set off firecrackers so close to a cooking area when it was clearly unsuitable for such activities.

“He’s right. It doesn’t matter what celebration it is. If you want to play with firecrackers, please find an appropriate place that won’t disturb others. Even loud noises can bother people, let alone thick smoke. Please have some common sense.”

Another user commented, “But why set the firecrackers off there? Can’t you do it a bit further away when it’s so close to the cooking station? I would be uncomfortable too if I were there.”

@abewee1 Abe Wee faham, Raya Cina setahun sekali. Semua orang nak main mercun, nak suasana meriah TAPI tolong tengok tempat. Pls respect tempat. Respect orang sekeliling. #fyp ♬ original sound - abewee
