Here's Everything You Need to Know About the LRT3 Shah Alam Line Ahead of Its 29 June Opening

After years of construction and multiple delays, the much-anticipated Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) will finally begin operations on 29 June, potentially changing the way many Malaysians travel around the Klang Valley. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the launch a day earlier, on 28 June.

From station locations to key connections, here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know about the new LRT line.

Will connect Bandar Utama and Johan Setia

Spanning 37.8 km, the LRT3 Shah Alam Line is designed to accommodate up to 18,680 passengers per hour in each direction. The line also marks the fourth fully automated and driverless rail system in the Klang Valley, following the Kelana Jaya Line, Kajang Line and Putrajaya Line.

The LRT3 features 20 stations across Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang, with two interchange stations at Bandar Utama (MRT Kajang Line) and Glenmarie (LRT Kelana Jaya Line).

It is understood that the LRT3 also has five additional provisional stations: Tropicana, Temasya, Raja Muda, Bukit Raja Selatan and Taman Botanik.

Although the exact opening date for these stations remains unclear, construction is reportedly expected to be completed around 2028.

How much does it cost to ride the LRT3?

According to a report by Malay Mail, the LRT3 Shah Alam Line will use Rapid KL's distance-based fare structure.

This means an end-to-end journey from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia will cost RM4.90 for cash users. Meanwhile, those opting for cashless payment will enjoy a lower fare of RM4.30 for the same journey.

Based on the published fare rates, concession card holders will enjoy a significantly lower fare of RM2.40 for the same end-to-end journey.

There are three concession categories offered by Rapid KL:

• Rapid Pelajar for Malaysian students
• Rapid Emas for Malaysians aged 60 and above
• Rapid Mesra for persons with disabilities (OKU) registered with the Social Welfare Department

The opening of the LRT3 is expected to improve connectivity between Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang, benefiting approximately two million residents along its route.
