In this age and time, scammers seem to be everywhere!

One Singaporean couple who are crazy Liverpool fans were recently scammed out of S$723 (RM2,183) after they bought fake match tickets from a scammer.

According to a report in Mothership, Muhammad Syahril, 33, and his wife Nurazila Suparman, 34, flew all the way to Britain to catch the Liverpool team play at Anfield for the Liverpool-West Ham home game.

Because tickets to the game were sold out, they had no choice but to turn to a Facebook group to get some tickets.

The ticket stated 'Liverpoool' not 'Liverpool'

They thought they were lucky when a man in England whom they contacted via Facebook, sold them tickets.

“On our way back to our room, my husband excitedly looked at the tickets, and said, “This is happening!”.

Unfortunately, after checking online, the couple realised that they were conned.

“True enough, after researching which was something we should have done before the meeting, our biggest fear came true. The tickets were fake — there was no serial number, no block 201 on the Kop Grandstand as the real blocks started with 202, and the side names printed on the tickets were spelt wrongly as “Liverpoool” ,” Nurazila wrote on Facebook.

The disappointed couple then shared the misfortunate incident on a Liverpool supporters’ Facebook group to warn others.

Unexpectedly, a member from the group, Kevin Doran, then started a crowdfunding campaign for the couple after learning of how they were scammed.

The campaign raised a three-figure sum which he then used to buy genuine tickets for the Anfield match for them.

The tickets even got the duo exclusive access to the premium lounge before the match!

What a turn of events!
