Back in the early 90s, Selva Kumar Subbiah shocked Malaysians and Canadians with the heinous sex crimes he committed in Canada. He’s a serial rapist who has been suspected of assaulting over a staggering 1,000 women and girls in Canada.

Upon completing his 24-year prison sentence in Canada recently, the Malaysian was ordered to be deported back by the Canadian authorities. “You are the worst offender and the highest risk that has ever come before me in my career,” told Andrew Laut, Chairman of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, according to The Toronto Star. Laut had also declared Kumar “a danger to the public” back in November 1994.

He was convicted for drugging and sexually assaulting 30 women during his crime spree, where he posed as a modelling agent, a talent scout, a professional dancer, a movie producer, and many more to lure his victims. His return to Malaysia has sparked an outrage and fears with the community questioning whether he will strike again. During his arrest in 1991, Canadian authorities also managed to seize a black book with “ratings” of over 170 of his victims.

Malaysian Inspector-General of Police in a statement said that he will be at the airport upon the arrival of the 56-year-old convict. “We will monitor him based on his criminal records and through the existing jurisdiction and authority we have,” the IGP told The Star. He added that they will be there to “record his statement but he is a free man”. However, he has assured the public that the police will closely monitor Selva Kumar.

Selva Kumar’s return to his home soil, which he hasn’t lived in since the 1980s, has led to the urge of creating a sex offenders registry by the Women, Family and Community Ministry. According to the New Straits Times, Canada’s “worst offender” is set to reach Malaysia tonight.
