Here Are the Major Road Closures in KL Ahead of the 47th ASEAN Summit Next Week

Traffic in the Kuala Lumpur city centre will be under total lockdown as Malaysia hosts the 47th ASEAN Summit next week.

The major event is expected to be attended by US President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and many others.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is also expected to attend, along with Thai Prime Minister and Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

According to a report by NST, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said police will deploy approximately 16,000 officers from across the country starting 23 October to manage and facilitate traffic.

“The police will be on high alert from October 23 to October 28. KL City Centre will be on total lockdown, and the police will not compromise on safety,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre (KLC3) stated that road closures will be implemented periodically, typically lasting between 30 to 45 minutes.

Intersections expected to be affected:

  • Jalan Ampang – Jalan P. Ramlee
  • Jalan Sultan Ismail – Jalan P. Ramlee
  • Jalan Perak – Jalan P. Ramlee
  • Jalan Perak – Jalan Pinang
  • Jalan Stonor – Jalan Kia Peng
  • Jalan Stonor – Persiaran KLCC

Main expressways involved:

  • Maju Expressway (MEX)
  • North-South Expressway (PLUS) from Sungai Buloh to Jalan Duta
  • ELITE Expressway (KLIA–Putrajaya)
  • New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) from Subang to Jalan Duta
  • Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE)
  • KL–Seremban Expressway (Sungai Besi–City Centre)

Additionally, routes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Subang towards the city centre, as well as the Putrajaya Ring Road and KLIA Highway, will also experience temporary closures.

The public is advised to avoid the Golden Triangle area surrounding KLCC and to use public transportation during the summit period.

Heavy vehicles will not be permitted to enter the city centre during peak summit hours.
