We may have heard of cases where recovered COVID-19 patients tested positive again after follow-up screenings but we would never thought of it occurring in our own shores.

According to The Star, five COVID-19 patients from Sandakan and Kinabatangan who have recovered tested positive for the second time after they took the test two days after being discharged.

On 18 April, the Health Ministry reported that 19 patients in Sandakan and 16 in Kinabatangan had recovered but the tally was changed two days later to 17 and 13 in the respective areas.

There is a possibility that the virus may still be inside your body despite showing signs of recovery.
Sabah Health Department Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said all the patients were considered to have recovered after two tests showed they tested negative for Covid-19.

However, the five patients tested positive in the follow-up screening.

“Its important to ensure that they are treated until they fully recover, ” Christina said.

As of Tuesday (21 April), Sabah recorded 308 COVID-19 cases with 118 patients still under treatment.
