However, let’s be real—finding a place to eat can sometimes be challenging if you have dietary restrictions, such as being vegan. That said, eateries that cater to vegans certainly do exist.

To make things easier, we’ve compiled a list of vegan restaurants in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor that are worth checking out. From comforting mains to indulgent desserts, these spots prove that vegan food can be just as satisfying and delicious—not only for vegans, but for meat lovers too.

1. The Hungry Tapir

Located in the heart of KL’s Chinatown, The Hungry Tapir is the only vegan and vegetarian restaurant in the area with a full-service bar.

Serving a fusion menu where East meets West, the restaurant offers everything from vegan satay and rainbow ulam fried rice to truffle baked mac and cheese. Do note that the restaurant is closed on Mondays, but on Fridays and Saturdays, it stays open until midnight, perfect for a laid-back dinner session.

2. Savor Restaurant

Founded in 2019, Savor is a plant-based restaurant offering a refreshing take on vegan dining by blending wholesome ingredients with bold, creative flavours. Located in Desa Sri Hartamas, it has become a favourite among practising vegans and casual diners curious about plant-based food.

One must-try dish is the Linopot d’Odu, a traditional Sabahan dish that translates to “Grandma’s wrapped rice preparation”. It features tuhau sambal (wild ginger), spicy-sweet bambangan (wild mango), fresh pucuk manis with soy chips, and sweet-savoury mushroom stems. For dessert, the Silky Decadence stands out, combining silken tofu, dark chocolate and fruit accompaniments.

3. Rightside

Who says fast food can’t be vegan? Rightside proves otherwise with plant-based eats that are just as satisfying as their meat-based counterparts. Formerly known as Amazon Vegan, the brand has since rebranded to cater to a wider audience.

What sets Rightside apart is its use of pea-based alternative proteins to recreate familiar fast-food favourites. Think juicy burgers, bite-sized sliders, flavourful tacos, as well as indulgent soft serves and shakes, all 100% plant-based. The restaurant currently has three outlets in Mid Valley KL, Pavilion KL and Kota Damansara.

4. Kind Kones

If you’re craving something sweet, Kind Kones is worth a visit. Founded in 2017, the brand has built a loyal following for its vegan ice cream, which is made from scratch using all-natural ingredients.

From in-house nut milks to gluten-free cones crafted with flaxseed and almonds, every detail is thoughtfully prepared to create a guilt-free yet indulgent treat. Popular flavours include Chocolate Sorbet, Charcoal Vanilla, Matcha Strawberry and Pandan Gula Melaka. Kind Kones has several outlets across KL and Selangor, and has also expanded internationally to Singapore, Oman and Dubai.

5. Lisette’s

While not exclusively vegan, Lisette’s offers a solid range of vegan and vegetarian options that don’t feel like an afterthought. One recommended dish is their Vegan Fusilli, served with vegan bolognese and green curry.

In addition to hearty meals, Lisette’s is also known for its desserts, including cakes, pastries and tarts. The restaurant occasionally introduces seasonal buffets, giving regulars something new to look forward to. There are currently two outlets—one in Bangsar and another at Sunway 163 Mall.

Touted as Malaysia’s first 100% plant-based bakery, VickedGood aims to create cruelty-free treats without compromising on taste or aesthetics. The bakery offers a wide selection of pastries, breads and cakes, all made without animal-based ingredients.

Founded by Sita Lakshmi and Sheila Philip, both qualified bakers and café owners with a combined 22 years of F&B experience, VickedGood opened its first retail outlet in August 2024 at Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya.

7. Kusa Vegan

Fans of Japanese cuisine should check out Kusa Vegan. Formerly known as Supe, the restaurant first opened in 2019 in the heart of KL and has since expanded with a second outlet in Bangsar.

Using ingredients such as tofu, tempeh and various mushrooms, the chefs craft satisfying meat-free dishes rooted in Japanese comfort food. Popular menu items include the Kusa Ramen, which comes with a rich broth made from six local spices.
