You’ve probably heard of people having a weird tendency of liking the taste of cough syrups and they even develop a habit of consuming it even if they’re not sick.
Well it seems that a tea parlour from California, USA called Labobatory is taking that obsession to the next level by introducing cough syrup bubble tea.
And not just any cough syrup, they’re using a product we Malaysians know dearly – Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa cough syrup or Ubat Batuk Cap Ibu dan Anak.
The company decided to introduce the unique menu at the oddest time of the year; the holidays season a.k.a Christmas.
Maybe the ang mohs got tired of peppermint or hot chocolate? Or is this a smart marketing ploy so that now you have an excuse to drink cold drinks when you're having a cough?

“We strive to create unique concoctions that blend premium traditional ingredients and modern twists on ingredients new and old,” Labobatory wrote on their Facebook page.
Well, we wouldn’t call the cough syrup a ‘premium traditional ingredient’ since it can easily be found in any drugstores or pharmacies in Malaysia. Guess it doesn’t take a lot to impress or amuse the Americans.
Some Malaysians reacted hilariously when they first heard about this eccentric drink:
Following this news, now we’re really curious to know if any bubble tea company in Malaysia is going to jump on the bandwagon and come up with their own version of cough syrup bubble tea.
If you had a chance to try this drink, would you risk your tastebuds?
