Pop culture and comic fans, you would know by now that the ever so popular San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) took place over the weekend from 19 to 22 July 2018.
This comic-con isn’t your usually convention, it’s one of the most anticipated event of the year as it features the who’s who of the industry including A-listers celebrities and directors all coming together to meet fans and also answer buring questions from members of the press.
One of the other main highlights of SDCC is also where big companies like Marvel, Disney, and DC – just to name a few, take the opportunity to exclusively screen trailers for their upcoming movies.
So here are the top five best movie trailers you need to watch that premiered during the SDCC.
Potterheads, it has been two years since our burning quest for another movie in the Harry Potter universe was satisfied following the end of the original Harry Potter movie franchise via Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
Through the trailer, we got a glimpse of young Albus Dumbledore played by Jude Law teaching young Newt Scamander. It also gave us a bit of back story about Newt’s life in Hogwarts before he became magizoologist. Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Grindelwald and from the looks of it, this movie is darker than the first one.
Premieres: 15 November 2018
We were first introduced to Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Aquaman via DC’s flop superhero movie, Justice League. And now, the man of the marine realm is getting his own standalone film. Momoa’s character, Arthur Curry learns that he has extraordinary powers at a very young age and decades later, he has to come back to his underwater ‘home’ in a bid to save both worlds and also to fight for the throne. Looks promising, hope it lives up to the hype.
Premieres: 20 December 2018
Hear ‘ye, hear ‘ye! A new superhero is coming to town and he has a very… funky name – Shazam. DC’s latest superhero movie shies away from all the previous ones they've done before thanks to something that’s desperately needed in DC movies – humour.
Your nothing-out-of-the-ordinary teen Bill Batson was mysteriously chosen by Shazam to inherit his superpowers and suddenly becomes an adult. His suit is kind of comical, so we can’t really take him seriously, but that makes us want to watch this movie even more.
Premieres: 5 April 2019
Our favourite childhood kaiju makes a return to the silver screen and this time, it features Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown as its lead. This Godzilla isn’t anything like the one we’re familiar with though. This time, it feels like a bunch of kaijus have come together to form the monster version of The Avengers to try and save the world from mass extinction. We totally flipped when we saw a kaiju start shooting some sort of laser beam to the sky. Here's to hoping that this version of Godzilla won’t disappoint.
Premieres: 31 May 2019
After watching the trailer, we only have a few words to describe it: O-M-G! Directed by the guy who gave us nightmares during our childhood, M. Night Shyamalan, Glass is about a group of three men who the psychiatrist claims that they ‘believe’ to have superpowers. And the three men in question aren’t your ordinary guys, we have Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis and James McAvoy.
If you think The Avengers: Infinity War was the greatest crossover in history, well the critically acclaimed director is making his own greatest crossover in history for featuring Split’s main character played by McAvoy, and both Willis and Jackson from Unbreakable. Definitely a movie you need to look out for next year.
